Program Description: The short-term goal of this program is to help clients functionally resolve the family, academic, vocational and social related problems for which they are seeking counseling. The long-term goals are to help them prevent these problems from escalating to more serious and chronic ones, thereby avoiding the consequences related to clinical or mental health problems and involvement with "the system".
Hours: Mon, Wed, Fri 8:30-5, Tue & Thur. 8:30-9PM.
Eligibility Criteria: Clients are low income. The target population is families, individual family members, and especially children, who are at risk of becoming involved with the Social Welfare, mental health, and/or legal system due to difficulties coping with everyday problems and stressors.
Referral Procedures: Herkimer County Probation Department and Herkimer County Mental Health Department are referral sources requiring meetings and intake procedures to link clients with Family Services of the Mohawk Valley.
Client Fees: Sliding Fee scale when not covered by other sources. Approximately 50% of the clients pay the minimum sliding scale fee of $5 per session and do not qualify for the Agency's other grant programs. Thus they would not be able to afford counseling if they were not subsidized by United Way Funds.
