Herkimer County HealthNet Provides Defibrillators to Local Law Enforcement

The Herkimer County HealthNet through a grant provided by New York State Department of Health and administered by Health Research Inc. purchased three Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).  The AEDs were distributed to the Herkimer County Sheriff Department and Little Falls Police Department.

The Sheriff’s Department received a Samaritan AED manufactured by Heartsine Technologies.  This AED will be housed in DMV Building of the Herkimer County Office Complex.

Little Falls Police Department received two Good Samaritan AEDs manufactured by Heartsine Technologies.  The AEDs will be kept in two of the Police Department’s patrol cars.

The New York State Department of Health offers the Rural Access to Emergency Devices Program to increase access to life-saving devices among rural first-responders. A 2001 study by the University Of Miami School Of Medicine found that equipping Miami-Dade County police officers with AEDs doubled the chance that a victim of sudden cardiac arrest would survive.
